¿A que parece ultimamente no hago nada? Pues no. Servidor se ha mantenido ocupado, tanto que no he tenido ni tiempo de postear cosas aqui. Eso, unido a que mucho del material producido aún no se puede mostrar hacen que parezca uno un desocupado y un holgazán. ¡Craso error! Aqui van unas pocas de las cosas que han ocurrido últimamente…

-Se ha presentado, en el Saló de Barcelona, el libro Cómics a Puerto, publicado por la Autoridad Portuaria de Santander y coordinado por el excelente Jordi Ojeda y Francesc Solé. Hace ya un tiempo os mostré una ilustración creada a proposito de la exposición asociada, que ha acabado como portada de este hermosísimo libro.

-El pasado sábado 30 de Junio, también al calor del Saló del Cómic de Barcelona, se celebró en el Bharma de Barcelona la Lost in Comics Party. En ella, autores de mayor mérito y talento que un servidor mostraron las ilustraciones que habían realizado sobre personajes de la mayestática serie Lost. Aqui abajo podéis ver la ilustración que le dediqué al bueno de Daniel Faraday.

-¿Y qué es de los cómics, dirán ustedes? Pues mucho y bueno. He tenido el placer y la alegría de empezar a colaborar con Marvel en, de momento, dos publicaciones. En el Dr. Doom & the Masters of Evil nº 4 aparecen siete páginas de un servidor de ustedes, junto al arte de Patrick Scherberger. Aquí tienen una preview, con una paginilla de las mías y todo. El Dr. Doom. ¿Hace falta decir más?

-Más aún: el 12 de agosto sale a la venta el Marvel Adventures Super Heroes nº 14, integramente dibujado por su seguro servidor y con guión de Paul Tobin. De todo tiene. Ojo de Halcón. Monstruos. Ojo de Halcón. Rubias con tacones. Ojo de Halcón. Robos. Ojo de Halcón. Hulk. ¡Ojo de Halcón!

-Hay más cosas, pero aún hay que esperar acontecimientos para enseñar. Digamos solo que en una de ellas está implicado un bárbaro querido y apreciado por todos, otra es un proyecto personal del que en breve aparecerá por aquí una preview como es debido, y la tercera es una sabrosa noticia marvelita. ¡En breve, detalles de todo esto!

Looks like I’ve been doing nothing lately, doesn’t it? Not at all. Yours truly has been keeping busy. A little bit too much to post some of the stuff I’ve been doing, actually. That, plus the fact that most of the drawings cannot be shown yet make me look unoccupied and lazy. Big mistake! Here’s some of the things that have kept me busy lately…

-The book Comics a Puerto was presented during the recently held Saló the Barcelona. It is published by the Santander Port Authority and coordinated by the very awesome Jordi Ojeda an Francesc Solé. Some posts ago I showed you an illustration for the associated exhibition. That very illustration has finally appeared as the cover of this -believe me- BEAUTIFUL book.

-On June 30th, also during the Saló, the Bharma of Barcelona (the only Lost-themed pub in the world, I’ve been told) held the Lost in Comics Party. In it, artists of greater talent and merits than myself showed the illustrations they had prepared of the characters appearing in the superlative ABC show. You can see here the one I drew presenting good ol’ Daniel Faraday.

-So what about comic books? ACTUAL comic books? Well, a lot. And very good too, I must say. I’ve had the pleasure to begin a collaboration with Marvel Comics in two publications so far. Seven pages of mine appear in issue #4 of Dr. Doom and the Masters of Evil, along with the art of Patrick Scherberger. Here’s a preview, including one of my pages. Dr. Doom. DR. DOOM. ‘Nuff Said.

-Even more comic books! Marvel Adventures Super Heroes #14 hits the stores next August 12th. Art by yours truly, script by Paul Tobin. Hawkeye. Monsters. Hawkeye. Blonde girls and high heels. Hawkeye. Bank thefts. Hawkeye. The Hulk. HAWKEYE!

-There’s even more, but for editorial reasons (meaning it has not come out yet or it’s in the works or whatever) it all has to be kept under wraps for the moment. I can say that a beloved barbarian is involved in one of them. Another one of them is a personal project that will soon have a proper preview right here. And last but not least, a very juicy Marvel piece of news that I hope I can share soon. Stay tuned!

Hace la tira de años, en una residencia universitaria, yo reestructuraba mi relación con los cómics gracias a la cercanía de una librería especializada y de un grupo de aficionados más amplio de aquel al que estaba acostumbrado. En el suelo de la habitación de un colega me leía La Batalla de Montjuïc y me lo pasaba pipa. Me emocionaba y me enardecía aquel relato entre lo épico y lo chorra, entre lo sublime y la anatomía ausente. Lo había visto antes, pero fué entonces cuando conocí la obra de Cels Piñol.

Hace un poco menos que la tira de años, un 22 de diciembre a las 9 de la noche, recibí la que sería la primera de las llamadas telefónicas que me hizo Cels Piñol. Había llegado a sus manos un book mío, y a la vista de aquello le pareció buena idea entregar a un mequetrefe universitario de 21 años una parcelita de su patio de recreo hiperexitoso de humor, referencias, películas, tebeos y diversión a todo trapo, su Fanhunter. Aquella noche me fuí a ver con unos colegas al cine George de la Jungla. La peli me pareció estupendísima. Y gracias a Cels, comencé mi carrera profesional como dibujante.

En el próximo Saló del Cómic de Barcelona se va a celebrar una exposición conmemorativa de los 20 años de existencia de Fanhunter. Es una de esas cosas que le hacen a uno recordar que empieza a tener edad para que haga 20 años de según que acontecimientos. Aparte de por el hecho de que incluida en esa exposición hay alguna ilustración mía, el que se cumplan 20 años de algo de lo que (en cierta medida) me siento parte y a lo que le tengo tanto cariño es una excelente excusa para escribir un post y conmemorarlo. Hace unos cuantos años tuve la suerte de colaborar en uno de los universos creativos más descacharrantes de la historia editorial de este pais, y no solo fué divertido. Fué aleccionador.

Quite a few years ago, at the student’s hall of residence I lived in, I redefined my relationship with comic books thanks to the vicinity to a comic book store and a wider group of fans than I was used to. Sitting on the floor of a friend’s room I had a hell of a time reading The Battle for Montjuïc. I was thrilled by that tale told somewhere between the epic and the nonsense, between the sublime and the absence of anatomy. I had seen it before, but it was then and there that I got acquainted to the works of Cels Piñol.

A few less years ago, one December 22nd at 9 P.M. I got the first phone call from Cels Piñol. He had seen a portfolio with a sample of my stuff, and he thought it was a good idea to give a 21-years-old university chump a lot of his highly successful playground to play, his very own Fanhunter. I went to the movies with some friends to see George of the Jungle. I loved it. And thanks to Cels, I started my career as a profesional penciller.

The next Saló del Cómic de Barcelona will hold an exhibition celebrating the 20 years of Fanhunter. It’s one of those things that make you think about how you’re old enough for some things to have happened 20 years ago. But aside from that and from the fact that I have some drawings in there, 20 years of something that I feel (even if only a little) to be a part of certainly deserve a post to honor. Quite a few years ago I was lucky enough to colaborate in one of the craziest, funniest creative universes of the land. Not only it was fun, but also the best learning experience ever.

-Una entrevista bien completa a un servidor de ustedes en Ruta 42. Les recomiendo un paseo general por el lugar, que está interesante.

-Hace unas semanas participé en el primer programa de la nueva etapa en formato podcast de Crónicas desde Sepelaci, del colega Victor Alós. Buen programa, y a excepción de mi presencia, con excelentes e importantes invitados. Que si David Hernando, que si Rafa Marín… Hay nivel. Participan también de modo regular Toni Martín, Javi Aguilella y ese lujo de persona y autor que es Pedro Cifuentes. Está disponible en ITunes.

-El 1 de Abril participaré, en calidad de storyboarder de esa maravilla que es Los Cronocrímenes, en las V Jornadas de Cómics de Castellón ComiCS09, la convención española con el mejor nombre del mundo y el más complicado de escribir. Organizan la Universitat Jaume I, los colectivos Freaks In Black y Fanzone. Aquí tienen el programa completo. Viene David Lloyd. Y Absence. Y Paco Roca. -A few weeks ago I got to participate in the first installment of the new podcast format in Victor Alos’s Crónicas desde Sepelaci. A real good show and, aside from my own presence in there, with some awesome guests: David Hernando, Rafa Marín… As regulars of the show there’s Toni Martín, Javi Aguilella and cooler than cool guy and author Pedro Cifuentes. It is available in ITunes.

-As the storyboarder of masterpieceful (does that even exist?) The Timecrimes, on April 1st I will be attending ComiCS09, the 5th Castellón Comics Convention (awesome show name, difficult spelling). It is held by the Universidad Jaume I, with collaboration from Freaks in Black and Fanzone. The whole program, here. It’s David Lloyd in there. And Absence. And Paco Roca. You should be already booking your tickets to go there and pay honor to them.

Recibo por diversas y apreciadas vías la noticia de que ha salido la edición española en la que se incluye el nº 172 de Robin, realizado por aquí un servidor a los lápices y con guión de Chuck Dixon y tintas de Steve Bird. ¡Corran a comprarlo, compatriotas!

I’ve learnt through different and appreciated sources that the spanish edition of Robin #172 is now available, with pencils by yours truly, script by Chuck Dixon and inks by Steve Bird. Go buy it, my fellow compatriots!

Una de las novedades que introdujo esta página web fue la posibilidad ofrecida a ustedes, amables usuarios, de solicitar commissions a su seguro servidor. Honestamente, no pensaba recibir más de dos o tres encargos al año, lo justo para en un momento dado alegrarme la vida con una cena masiva o una XBox. Imagínense mi sorpresa cuando, a estas alturas, he recibido ya… ¡Siete encargos! Esta es una razón tan buena como cualquier otra para escribir un post y colocar aqui algunos de los dibujos en concreto. One of the new features introduced by this website was the possibility offered to you, my dear users, of soliciting commissions to yours truly. In true honesty, I never thought I’d get more than one or two commissions a year. Just about enough  to lighten up my life with a massive dinner or an XBox. Imagine my surprise when I found myself to have received… Seven commission orders! That’s a reason as good as any other to post and show here some of those particular illustrations. And take the chance to thank all those nice clients for their confidence. Thanks a lot, to @ll of you!
